Model Nutrition & Fitness: A Healthy Lifestyle
What kind of nutrition and training does a professional model need? The answer surprises many: it’s not about deprivation or extreme workouts — it’s about consistency, health and a body awareness that lasts long-term.
Nutrition for models: what really works?
Crash diets are a career killer. Anyone who damages their body through extreme restriction risks hair loss, poor skin and a lack of energy for shoot days. What actually helps:
Basic principles
- Enough protein: Maintains muscle mass and keeps skin firm (meat, fish, legumes, eggs)
- Complex carbohydrates: Long-lasting energy for long shoot days (oats, wholegrain bread, rice)
- Healthy fats: Omega-3 for skin and hair (avocado, nuts, salmon)
- Plenty of water: At least 2 liters daily — your skin and eyes will thank you
- Little alcohol and sugar: Both show up directly on your face
“The best beauty filter is good sleep, enough water and real food. The rest takes care of itself.”
Fitness for models: what should you train?
No model needs to look like a bodybuilder — but a trained, defined body photographs better. Targeted preparation especially pays off before a sedcard shoot. The right training:
Recommended forms of training
- Pilates: Strengthens the core, improves posture and body control — ideal for runway and shoots
- Yoga: Flexibility, balance, body awareness — important for natural posing movements
- Light strength training: Defines without bulking up — 2–3 times a week is enough
- Endurance (running, swimming, cycling): Stamina for hours-long shoots
What to avoid
- Extreme strength training shortly before an important shoot (muscles appear bloated)
- Massive weight changes during ongoing contracts (clothing size problems)
- Extreme sports with a high risk of injury (sprained ankles, scars, bruises)
Skin routine: the underrated topic
Models invest as much in their skin as in nutrition and training. A good basic routine — together with the right everyday model tips:
- Morning: cleansing + moisturizer with SPF
- Evening: double cleansing, serum, rich cream
- Weekly: gentle exfoliation, face mask
- Always: remove make-up completely — even after long shoot days
