Become a model in Frankfurt Main: How it works

Basically these question always arises first:

How old do I have to be to start modeling?

If you want to be represented and managed as a model in an international model agency like ours, you should be at least 15 years old. As a model agency, we recommend that you concentrate fully on school before you start.

Of course there are not only teenagers and teen models in the model industry, but also models with 20, 30 or even 60 years, so-called Best Agers. We also have tips for you!

Full concentration on school

Good grades and a good basic education will help you a lot later in your job. After all, the better you get, the more flights you have to make, the more punctual you have to get to hotels in new cities where you have to find your way around again and again. Sometimes you have to show some spontaneity for small advertising jobs or moderations. After the shootings or in the breaks, there are small small talks. If you then have a Magazine Shooting and can’t communicate off-set with the others who have usually seen a lot of the world, you shine less than with good general knowledge. The third important point, if you want to work internationally, you need time to travel. Such a stay abroad usually lasts at least 45 days, but mostly even 60 days. The only time students really have time for such a long stay, including the trip, is during the summer holidays. In the summer holidays are generally rest periods, not only in Germany but also abroad. The families go on holiday and there is less production. Of course, there are fewer jobs for models. Some agencies, in Paris or also in Milan even close the agency completely for one or two weeks during this time. The high season for such a stay is then again September to December and afterwards from February to July.

In which cities are there the most jobs for models?

If you want to start your career from Frankfurt, your first focus will be on Germany and the larger cities in your area. This mainly includes Cologne but also Düsseldorf. The simple basic rule says that the more people live in a city, the more jobs, more advertising agencies, more manufacturing companies, but also more service providers and more advertising opportunities in the city center. The two factor plays the situation of the city, so there is e.g. a clear Top 10 in Germany. You can get most jobs as a model in Berlin and Hamburg. Especially in Berlin many international productions take place, in Hamburg there are many media agencies and therefore also many offers for models. Then come Munich, Cologne and just after that Frankfurt am Main, Hanover and Düsseldorf.

In the following you simply send your picture material to Modelagentur, some data as well as your contact, your name, place of residence but also the most important measurements as well as your body and clothing size. If a model agency is interested in you, they will get back to you as soon as possible, most likely within five days. So the process won’t take that long, if you don’t get any feedback from the model agencies, the look won’t suit you. Don’t ask any questions, because every model agency has only limited capacities and wants to take care of the models completely. If you are in an agency tomorrow, you would want full attention. If you don’t fit, you should accept this and try your luck in another agency.

How tall do I have to be as a model in Frankfurt?

The body size plays a decisive role, even if there is no completely uniform scale of measurements, the fashion world in particular focuses on a minimum body size of 175cm for women. You shouldn’t be bigger than 181cm either. This is the perfect size for pre-cut garments but also for fashion shows in Frankfurt. Meanwhile you should be at least 186 cm tall and maximum 190 cm in your application as men’s model. So you fit perfectly to the female cast, even if they wear high heels. It is important that you are not too much trained as a man, you should have a defined body, not be a muscle package.

These are the prerequisites for models who want to enter the fashion industry. Of course measurements can also deviate, models with 170 cm can also have success, but statistically it will be less. But if you still make an effort, show full commitment, who knows! You can also be more trained as a man, e.g. if you want to become a sportsman or Fitness Model. What happens after my agency recording in Frankfurt am Main?

The following steps are very different from your age or the time you are going to spend with the school. For example, if you still have two years of school ahead of you, the first two years will focus on building your Modelbook and getting it ready for the national and international market. Your agency will arrange appointments with good photographers to help you with your portfolio. It is important for you always to pay attention to the quality, it is better to have few good photos than a mass of halfway good pictures. Because at the latest when you are in competition as a model, e.g. for jobs in other cities like Hamburg or Berlin, you need a strong portfolio where the customer can see with a few moments how good you are.

After the first year, the first jobs start slowly, it takes a while, because you first have to build up a model book and you have to have good performance in school, so that you get free, most productions, almost all of them, are during the week. If there’s one more day of travel and one day for the return journey, plus the booking is for 2 days, you’re quickly out for a week. Therefore you will work even less during school time and do smaller jobs as well as the previously mentioned showrooms in Frankfurt city centre or for Frankfurt online shops or social media channels like Instagram photo shootings.

If you’re already at the end of your school days at the agency, it’s sometimes a matter of placement abroad. As a model it should go on and on for you, from Frankfurt to Berlin, from Berlin to London Fashion Week and from London to Milan, Paris, Shanghai and Tokyo.
