Fashion Week Berlin: fashion show, designers and dates

Fashion Week Berlin – Soon it’s time again and all model agencies and models will meet again in Berlin! The Fashion Week is coming and invites you to the big summer party. For a week, Berlin will once again transform into the fashion mecca. Many people know from fashion magazines like Vogue, Elle or Harper’s Bazaar the big shows of German designers. But aside from the main stages, there is also a lot more to discover, for example the Berlin Fashion Salon. If you want to become a model and are on your way to the Fashion Week in Berlin, you will naturally also need a cozy hotel. From there you can go to the shows and in the evening still go to a nice restaurant.

Why is the Berlin Fashion Week taking place?

Fashion changes so quickly! Almost every month there is a new collection, and again new pieces hang in the shop windows of city centers. Online shops also constantly offer new highlights. All big chains as well as all boutiques must source their clothes somewhere. Usually, you visit a designer and look at the clothing in the showroom. That’s why showrooms are also one of the most common jobs for up-and-coming models. Here, you present the designer’s new fashion collections directly on your body, in front of a small audience, which consists only of the designer, someone from marketing, and the customer. The customer can directly see the cuts, fits, and materials. Of course, this way is relatively time-consuming, because each individual boutique owner has to come to the customer, needs a single appointment, a model, and thus a lot of effort is created. At the Berlin Fashion Week, there are exhibition halls with different themes, such as trend fashion, wedding fashion, or plus sizes. In every exhibition, hundreds of designers and producers position themselves. For a week, industry professionals can inform themselves about the latest collections and pieces here. They can not only see the individual samples live, but on each stand, models are also booked who can present individual pieces. This is the main business of the Berlin Fashion Week!

Fashion designers meet customers

From prêt-à-porter to Curvy, customers can find everything they need for their fashion boutiques and stores. Thus, Berlin is setting the trends in German fashion boutiques for a few weeks. Of course, it’s not only boutiques that come here, but also larger fashion chains that send their scouts to discover trends. At every trade show, hundreds of designers are lined up next to each other, stand by stand. There is a lot to discover here, from fabrics and cuts that have been separated, to entirely new ideas and function wear. The fashion industry is never still, and therefore people meet for the Fashion Week, whether in London, Paris, Milan, New York or also in Berlin to discover the latest trends. And when people meet, of course others come too. YouTube, Instagram stars, press, stars and celebrities. For a week, Berlin becomes the Who is Who of fashion and the media world.

How many fashion shows are there on the Berlin Fashion Week?

Among the various fashion shows there are two different sections. One stage focuses on the main shows. Here, the big German designers come together to present their new collections in front of a large audience. Not only regular guests are invited to these fashion shows, but also VIPs, YouTubers, Instagrammers, press representatives and stars such as actors, footballers or musicians. On this main stage, there are usually eight shows per day spread over five days. From Monday to Friday, people have the opportunity to view the new collections. On Saturday there is also a big highlight, with the audience and tickets here naturally being strictly limited and not available for purchase.

In addition to the main stage, there are also 2 or 3 secondary venues where smaller shows by young designers take place. For example, the Berlin Fashion Salon is one of them, where people can look forward to new designers in particular. There is also the Ethical Fashion Show. It runs parallel to the main stage for five days and showcases in particular fashion labels that focus on sustainability. These are the two different areas, the main stage and the various secondary venues.

How do you get tickets for the Berlin Fashion Week?

It is extremely difficult to get tickets for the main stages, of course designers would rather have Instagram stars or YouTubers who can report directly and immediately on the collections. Press representatives and magazines are increasingly moving into the background, as are stars and VIPs. If you want a ticket, you therefore need good contacts and a contact person at the respective designer or their advertising or PR agency. However, getting such tickets is very difficult!

For the other side events that exist during Berlin Fashion Week, it is also difficult to get tickets, but a little easier. For example, if you have an Instagram account with at least 40,000 or 50,000 followers, it is possible to get one or two tickets. The magic word here is accreditation. However, you should take care of this early on, and you should only try if you essentially have something to offer in exchange for the coveted spots.

How many people are at a fashion show in Berlin?

The tickets are naturally strictly limited, which is why there is little space available. That’s clear, but how little space exactly? The main show of the Berlin Fashion Week usually includes a maximum of 150 people. Each show can therefore be equipped with 150 guests. At first, this sounds like a lot of space, but when you subtract sponsors, people from the team or partners, as well as buyers who take larger quantities, only 100 places remain quickly. These 100 places then have to be distributed among stars with whom you collaborate, Instagrammers with whom you already work, model agencies that provide models, and so on! In the end, maybe 80 tickets remain for invitations, for all of Germany but also for international guests.

The space conditions are therefore very tight, and on the side events it often gets even tighter. At the Berlin Fashion Salon, there are shows with only 30 or 40 guests. Would you have thought that? That’s why invitations to the shows are so highly sought after!

Do international designers also appear in Berlin?

International designers you will meet less on the Berlin Fashion Week, mostly Fashion brands with C are present, but that is already the big international highlight! In Berlin, the top German designers, such as RIANI or Dorothee Schumacher, meet.

In which location does the Berlin Fashion Week take place?

The designers’ shows take place in various locations around the city, not long ago at the Brandenburg Gate in a specially erected large tent, with its own lounge and many amenities, then at the Kaufhaus Jandorf and this year for the first time at the Berlin E-Werk.

Modeling on a fashion show? If you want to work as a model on one of the fashion shows, you must participate in the castings. The casting dates, especially for the big designers, are naturally kept strictly confidential. Only the big model agencies are allowed to participate here, so that on the day of the decision, there are really only the best candidates on site. In Berlin, there is not much time left for preparation, as an agency or team usually has 7 to 10 days to find the best models, get familiar with the location, prepare all the clothing items, and make adjustments if something comes up spontaneously. Therefore, the castings are usually not held publicly. With smaller labels, however, you sometimes have luck as a model without a model agency. Because some of their castings are held publicly, why is that so? The big designers certainly don’t need additional advertising, as they already have other concepts. Smaller designers, for example from Berlin, however, are happy about a little extra attention for their model label. That’s why they also make some model castings public. If you are interested in Model Scouting or even aiming for Modeling abroad, such events are a good opportunity to show yourself.

Berlin, Paris, London, New York, which is the most worthwhile?

The concepts and the presentation are naturally the most extravagant in Paris and New York! If you’ve experienced one here, Berlin will quickly seem relatively small in comparison. Especially in Paris, large shows are traditionally held. Everyone knows the famous productions for fashion brands with C by Karl Lagerfeld, futuristic with robots, in a supermarket or even in the forest, every kind of staging is possible. In Berlin, the standards are already a bit smaller, here you have two or three locations, which are usually not specially prepared, the focus is on the fashion. This naturally has its own charm. However, the Fashion Week is not only important to see new clothing items, but also for networking and to meet up again.

What else can you experience besides the fashion shows?

In the streets of Berlin, especially in the city center, you’ll find many events and happenings taking place in parallel with the Fashion Week. For example, there are great parties at the House of Weekend, one of the rooftop bars in Berlin. Not just a bar, but also a club! A really unique experience for Berlin. If you are in Berlin in the summer as an agent of a model agency or as a model yourself at the Fashion Week, then a visit to the Haubentaucher is also worth it, just a few meters away from the Warschauer Straße. At the Haubentaucher, you not only have a club but also a huge pool. Especially on hot summer days, the cooling off in the evening here is perfect. In addition, there are also smaller events and parties, from DJs to barbecues. Of course, you don’t just have the time to attend evening events, but also many events at night. Magazine parties in clubs, private parties in larger houses, but also designer events, often with famous singers who present new songs to an invited audience. From a cozy barbecue to a magazine party, there is so much to experience in Berlin. Many dates can be found, among others, on the official website of the Fashion Week, but also always in our fashion blog!
