The advertising model – model for advertising & sales talent
Werbemodel – a career goal for many aspiring models is to ultimately see themselves in a commercial or advertisement clip on television or online. Billboard or print advertising also counts among the fields of activity for a commercial model. For models, we, as a model agency in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich and Cologne, give a small insight! Not only are the earnings for the model higher than, for example, in the area of Catwalk, but also the popularity of a model can increase enormously through a successful company or brand’s advertising campaign. This in turn means that the model not only gains valuable experience for the future, but also the market value of the model increases. And seriously – who wouldn’t want to be seen smiling down from a huge poster? Or generally be associated with an exclusive company or brand? But what exactly is hidden behind the term commercial model?
Classic Model Jobs: Advertising, Billboards and Advertising Campaigns
What does a good fashion model or commercial model do?
The term commercial model is a specific term for a model who is particularly active in the field of advertising, i.e. billboards, advertisements, commercials, ad clips, etc. Such models are also referred to as Commercial Models. They have a nice face (according to social norms), look natural and have a good figure, but not too thin.

Commercial model – requirements and prerequisites
Size is not necessarily insignificant as a fashion model, however, in the advertising industry, even smaller models (e.g., with a height of 170 cm) have a chance. Someone who seems unthinkable on the catwalk can be exactly the right type for advertising. The girl or boy next door with a friendly aura? Perfect. A radiant smile? Mandatory. After all, the customer should be able to identify with the models.
Neat appearance – the A and O in the model business
Nevertheless, the model gives the company a certain image or should reinforce an already established company image. For this, the model must be able to identify with the company, and vice versa, the company with the model. In a cosmetics chain, a photo model with acne-prone skin and an asymmetrical face is unthinkable, among other things. Likewise, in a hair advertising model, there is a basic rule: the model must not have damaged hair. Thus, the exact type logically depends on the products and services being promoted.
Advertising models – what do you actually earn?
The profession of a commercial model is particularly popular because the pay for these jobs is significantly higher than for fashion models, for example on the runway. It is essential for a commercial model to be represented by a model agency that sets a high (justified) daily fee from the beginning, as it is possible that follow-up jobs of this type in the same product categories may no longer be available. The model should ultimately be authentic for the product being advertised. The recognizability of a model and a brand is crucial, which is why the faces of a major brand are rarely booked.
Advertising, commercial photography, and commercials for brands
Advertising is a broad field within the area Marketing. But what exactly is included in it? And why is advertising considered one of the best-paid jobs in the modeling business? Alongside poster ads, flyers, catalogs, advertisements, and general print advertising, also include advertising clips, both for TV and for the internet, as part of the range of advertising. Through the instruments, such as, for example, the media carriers, companies try to polish or establish their image in the market, consciously.
The big brands and their marketing strategies
Well-developed marketing strategies lie behind a seemingly simple advertising campaign that is disseminated through media. The companies try to directly address their target audience and communicate with them on another level, influencing them as well. The goal is that customers feel addressed, identify with the company, and ultimately the sales market increases. In order for the company to achieve these processes optimally, it is important to find the right models for the appropriate advertising. These are ultimately the ones who convey the company’s message to the customer.
Requirements/Expectations of a Model in the Advertising Industry
The requirements for an advertising model are diverse. Not only the corresponding appearance, a good figure, a certain height, and a nice face count. This is certainly a prerequisite to even get started in the modeling business.
Confident, authentic and natural
Success as a fashion model will only be achieved by the one who fully expresses themselves in front of the camera and ambitiously works on themselves. A fashion model must feel comfortable in their own skin. No matter how many pairs of eyes are watching precisely as you shave your legs, spread nut nougat cream on bread, or jump rope.
Authenticity is also essential (you must stand for the corresponding brand and appear genuine and natural) and a friendly aura. Every viewer would rather like the smart, lively girl from next door than the arrogant prima ballerina. However, it is also important for the friendly neighbor girl to display a natural self-confidence. A quiet mouse has no place in the advertising industry.
The consumer should be able to remember you and associate the product with your strong aura. Because every person would like to be confident, energetic, and positive. A radiant smile is therefore just as top priority as good skin and beautiful hair. Good body care is a prerequisite. However, the absolutely decisive argument for selecting a fashion model is acting talent. You must be able to put yourself into a role and embody it with full conviction.
