First test shootings as a young male model
No matter if you come from Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne or Munich, at the beginning you have test shootings. In these test shootings you can prove your skills and the agency gets feedback from the photographer. The first task and at the same time the most important one. Because first you have to fill your model book with meaningful pictorial material. It is not about 50 different photo galleries, but about 5 good, varied photo galleries. Sporty, couples, sexy in black and white, underwear and business. You already have a good portfolio! Diversity is so important because customers also get a picture of you when they look at photos. If someone now wants to shoot a lookbook for a high-quality men’s clothing brand, it is definitely an advantage if you already have suitable pictures in your portfolio. So you can imagine yourself much easier in the set!
The first jobs for boys and young men
Your first jobs will usually consist of photo shoots. At the beginning still relatively undemanding, e.g. 20 parts for an online shop. It gets more challenging when you are asked for different posings and of course emotions. For such campaign shootings you have to have done some photo shoots in order to have the necessary experience and know how to take up presence in a room, what effect a certain look or pose has on you. Due to your experience and feedback you will become more and more confident in your movements. This of course makes it more and more valuable for the customer, because when you are at shooting sets, every single movement sits! That’s where it has to go for you.
As a young male model you often also work in showrooms. Small fashion shows without an audience in which you present collection pieces directly to the customer, with the designer or someone from the marketing department. In this way, the customer or buyer, whether from a boutique or from a large fashion chain, can directly gain an impression. He sees how the processing and the material have been put together. The buyers also have the opportunity to talk directly to you as a model and ask you, for example, how you feel about the fabric.
