Becoming a Model at 16: Requirements for Teens & Parental Consent
Many teenagers dream early on of a modeling career. At 16, the question comes up: am I old enough? What do I need? And what do my parents say about it? CM Models answers the most important questions about modeling as a teenager.
Can You Become a Model at Age 16?
Yes — in Germany, modeling as a teenager is possible from age 16 under certain conditions. The most important requirement: written consent from both parents. Without it, no model agency can sign a minor to a contract.
Requirements for Teenage Models
Age Limit and Working Hours Law
- From age 16: work is possible with parental consent
- Working hours: max. 8 hours a day, no night work (before 6 am / after 8 pm)
- School comes first: jobs only on school-free days or weekends
- Youth welfare office approval: sometimes required for commercial productions
Physical Requirements
At 16, the body is still growing — that’s why many agencies prefer current measurements and current photos, since these can change within a short time.
- Girls: from about 170 cm for fashion, from as little as 165 cm for catalog/commercial work
- Boys: from about 180 cm — since growth is usually not yet finished at 16
- Natural appearance, no heavy makeup
What Parents Should Know
We only sign minors when we have the parents’ full trust — and the parents understand the business.
Reputable model agencies work transparently with parents. Warning signs of untrustworthy providers:
- Upfront payments for photos, sedcards, or signing fees
- Pressure to sign contracts quickly
- No clear information on pay and areas of work
- Appearances at odd hours or without parental accompaniment
How Does the Application Process Work for Teens?
- Online application: submit photos + measurements + age
- Casting invitation: together with one parent
- Signing the contract: both parents sign
- First jobs: scheduled deliberately, age-appropriately, and school-friendly
