Becoming a Model at 16: Requirements for Teens & Parental Consent
Many teenagers dream early on of a modelling career. At 16, the question arises: am I old enough? What do I need? And what do my parents say about it? CM Models answers the most important questions about modelling as a teenager.
Can you become a model at 16?
Yes — in Germany, modelling as a teenager is possible from the age of 16 under certain conditions. The most important condition: the written consent of both parents. Without this, no model agency can put a minor under contract.
Requirements for teenage models
Age limit and working hours law
- From 16 years: work with parental consent is possible
- Working hours: max. 8 hours daily, no night work (before 6am / after 8pm)
- School comes first: jobs only on school-free days or weekends
- Youth welfare office approval: sometimes required for commercial productions
Physical requirements
At 16, the body is still growing — many agencies therefore prefer current measurements and current photos, since these can change in a short time.
- Girls: from around 170 cm for fashion, from as little as 165 cm for catalogue/commercial
- Boys: from around 180 cm — since growth at 16 is usually not yet complete
- Natural appearance, no heavy make-up
What parents should know
We only take on minors if we have the full trust of the parents — and the parents understand the business.
Reputable model agencies work transparently with parents. Warning signs of disreputable providers:
- Advance payments for photos, sedcards or admission fees
- Pressure for quick contract signatures
- No clear information on compensation and areas of work
- Appearances late at night or without parental accompaniment
How does the application process work for teenagers?
- Online application: submit photos + measurements + age
- Casting invitation: together with a parent
- Signing the contract: both parents sign
- First jobs: scheduled specifically, age-appropriately and school-friendly
