The history of the magazine

The in-house publishing house was founded in 1949 by Aenne Burda. The first edition came out the following year in January. Aenne’s original idea for the magazine was a fashion magazine with patterns for sewing the clothes shown. This brought the magazine great economic success at the beginning. For the first time, readers could not only admire the latest fashion, but also make the clothes themselves at a low cost. Starting in the 1980s, the first international expansions were made. First in Russia, a few years later then on the Asian market.
